FOREST
by Carlos Soto
1. A forest is a large area of land covered with trees or other woody vegetation. Hundreds of more precise definitions of forest are used throughout the world, incorporating factors such as tree density, tree height, land use, legal standing and ecological function. Forests at different latitudes form distinctly different ecozones: boreal forests near the poles tend to consist of evergreens, while tropical forests near the equator tend to be distinct from the temperate forests at mid-latitude. The amount of precipitation and the elevation of the forest also affects forest composition.
2. There are different regions where you can locate forests, for example: -Latin America: 9,640,000km2 of forested area. -Africa: 6,500,000km2 of forested area. -Canada and United States: 3,680,000km2 of forested area.
3. ANIMALS
3.1. FOX -Forest -50% per year, only a quarter of the foxes live up to two years of age , 12% to three years , 6% four years, and very few live more than six years . Exceptionally, a wild fox can survive ten years, but by then suffer arthritis and have lost most of their teeth. In captivity, foxes can live up to fourteen years. - In many areas, the fox is able to reproduce throughout the year . However, they also do in the early winter months because of the vegetation and temperatures . -The Foxes are omnivores , consuming almost any type of food. The diet for the fox is very diverse, so they are able to live in different places in the world. Foxes tend to eat small animals such as rodents , rabbits and squirrels. SQUIRREL -Habitat: Forest -Life cycle: Life expectancy squirrels released, it is about 6 years and can live in captivity for 10 years. -Type of reproduction: Before reaching one year of age, most of the female squirrels are fertile. However, mating takes place shortly after hibernation from late March to early May. During this time, the female squirrels and vocalizations emit odors that attract males who, in turn, leave their routines to find fertile females. -Type Nutrition: Feeding squirrels is based on fruits, flowers, acorns, nuts and seeds, stored in their burrows for when winter comes. They also eat insects and spiders. To transport these supplies use some bags called cheek pouches, having in the snout. They also tend to dig into the ground to store food.
4. PLANTS
4.1. ACTAEA SPICATA -Rainforests -Flourish from April to July and don´t had given life time. -Asexual -The plant needs to have light to flourish and reproduce, the plant needs light to feed, but hold shadows and also can feed them. ASPLENIUM ONOPTERIS -Rainforests -It has not a specific lifetime -Asexual -It needs sunlight to feed themselves and not dry.
5. How important are the selected species in their environment? The two selected bodies are of great importance in the ecosystem, because somehow or another, the forest needs them for any type of feeding or reproduction, or sunlight in this case for plants or animals. Everything has to be seen in the ecosystem in which they find themselves. Díaz, D. (2004). sierradebaza. Obtenido de http://www.sierradebaza.org/Fichas_fauna/04_08_zorro/zorro.htm
6. What is the relationship between the two organisms in the ecosystem? The two make a great role in its ecosystem. The plants mentioned need the forest to flourish and the animals too in order to survive and continue their normal life cycle. They are related in that, they need the forest to live, eat and reproduce. BioEnciclopedia. (26 de Marzo de 2012). BioEnciclopedia. Obtenido de http://www.bioenciclopedia.com/bosque/
