2. Early Signs: muscle cramps, spasms or twitching; weakness in the hands and feet or loss of balance; trouble talking clearly - slurring words

3. Middle Stages: many muscles weaken and start to stiffen; might tire more easily; breathing may be affected; a feeding tube might be suggested; a speech therapist to keep talking longer; may rely on a cane, walker, or wheelchair due to difficulties walking and maintaining balance

4. Late Stages: muscles become paralyzed; require a wheelchair to get around; may communicate through assistive devices using an eye-tracking device or a letter board; may choose invasive ventilation to help keep them breathing; most die due to respiratory failure
