1.1. I’ve learnt about editing on a piece of software called 'Premiere Pro CS6' and will now be able to make simple edits in the future. With Premiere Pro, we changed the lighting through colour grading and edited the entire music video together, linking the different shots with the song, mostly done through thought beats. I additionally learned a great deal on how to construct a music video. I now know how to mix a song with the different shots and how to cut down and place the different shots so they flow smoothly together. I know much more about Photoshop and can edit things more efficiently thanks to creating the digipak. For my other ancillary task, where I had to create a website homepage, I used Serif WebPlus, but had experience with this software before and knew the basics on how to create a simple website. All I had to do was look up conventions of an indie website and base the structure off of that. During the evaluation questions, I additionally got more experience with sites such as Prezi, Emaze and Mindmeister, learning different techniques and ways to present my ideas and overall evaluations.
2. Social Media
2.1. I used multiple different forms of social media for different means. I used Facebook to get reception for our project ideas and to help evaluate the product, as I have friends and family on there that can offer unique opinions on the product. I used YouTube to upload the final music video product and post it on my blog and Facebook, as this is the most popular and convenient way of doing so. Finally, I used different websites and social media sites to look into conventions of the indie genre to help with the final product and the two ancillary tasks.
3. Editing Techniques
3.1. With Premiere Pro, we used different editing techniques to create a conventional indie music video that flows and successfully links its narrative section with its performance section. In my section of the music video, I implemented jump cuts to show a progression in time for the protagonist as he walks down an alley way. This is often used in indie music videos as it creates the effect of loneliness and works in conjunction with thought beats. Thought beats were prominently used throughout. If the sound of an instrument is noticeable, that beat will lead to a shot of said instrument being played, linking the sound with the video.
4. Physical Equipment
4.1. I’ve had experience with two different types of camera, including how to properly use features on them, such as focusing. I used both a DSLR Canon and a camcorder before the music video to see which my partners and I preferred. We found that the camcorder was easier to use and had better movement; not blurring when you looked around. We chose the DSLR, however, due to it having a steadier focus and more features. I now understand more of the features on both the cameras. In the end, we chose to use a DSLR over a digital camera. We felt that the sharper image and the ability to manually focus and create effects through doing so were more appealing than smoother and easier movement. To create the smoother movement we wanted in many shots, we used a tripod on wheels and a steady cam. Finally, we used a light on the camera to focus on the subject of the shots more.
