Discrimination Towareds the Transgender Community

1. EXISTING SOCIAL CONDITION 1 - Increased media coverage of Transgender awareness along with legal & civil rights movement.
2. EXISTING SOCIAL CONDITION 2 - There is a higher rate of substance abuse among the transgender community due to depression and lack of acceptance.
3. SOCIAL ROLES 1 - Lawmakers are blocking and revoking legislation that would offer Transgenders equal rights.
4. SOCIAL ROLES 2 - Religious Organizational Leaders are discriminating against Transgenders under the guise of religious beliefs.
5. CULTURAL BELIEFS AND BIASES 1 - Our current society believes that there are only two sexes, male and female and that gender must match a persons sex. Gender Reassignment is a way to conform Transgenders to society.
6. CULTURAL BELIEFS AND BIASES 2 - There is a current misconception that sharing public restrooms with transgenders can be an opportunity for sexual predators.
7. SOCIAL INEQUALITIES 2 - Transgenders face prejudice and discrimination from religious institutions and lawmakers.
8. SOCIAL INEQUALITIES 1- Transgenders face discrimination and lack of healthcare from the medical community.
