8. Storyline

8.1. I grew up in a town that was pretty racist. I was one of the only black kids there. During this time I received a lot of ridicule and even bullying for the color of my skin. I was made to feel as if I wasn't beautiful because of the color of my skin. I saw a video recently where someone put a black baby doll and a white baby doll in front of kids. They were asked to point to the "bad" baby doll. Each kid, individually, pointed to the black baby doll. They were then asked to point to the doll that was ugly, with the same results. Each of them pointed to the black baby doll. When asked why that doll was "bad" or "ugly," they said because it was because the doll was dark. Both black and white children had this same reaction. I think that says a lot for how children are being conditioned to think. Children are growing up in a society where they are made to feel less than because of the color of their skin. They immediately identify being black with "bad" or "ugly." It was the same for me. It wasn't until I was older that I realized how skewed and damaging this way of thinking had been for me. I want to spread a message of love to my people and to all the black children all over the world. I also want my voice, through film, to speak loudly to those who have an opportunity to spread this positive message to the world.
