How can teachers get the most in the classroom from today's ICT tools?
by John Cuthell
1. progression and assessment
1.1. ePortfolios
1.2. Peer assessment & comments (needs scaffolding to be meaningful)
1.3. Reduction in focus on remembering content...students should be showing how they have applied what they have learned (skills etc)
2. Support in the classroom
2.1. Relevant multimedia scaffolding for both teachers and students (available online 24/7)
2.1.1. Students encouraged to create scaffolding for teachers and peers (e.g. Tech angels)
2.2. What is the classroom? Physical space with 4 walls? Or is it a learning community that shares a lot of different spaces including virtual ones? If the latter then support can take many forms.
3. Supporting parents
3.1. Parent community
3.2. Regular blog posts from teachers and students
3.3. Parents encouraged to comment meaningfully on student work / help students reflect & decide what the 'next stage' is
4. Enhancing data collection
4.1. Collaboration
4.2. Access to open data / authentic sources
4.3. Education around Creative Commons / attribution
4.4. Learners collect own primary data...and share globally
4.4.1. Collaborative projects across countries / cultures to enable comparison & encourage cultural awareness
