Teaching Strategies by Mind Map: Teaching Strategies

1. Whole Class Instruction with White Boards: As a class teacher presents class with a problem and breaks down the steps and reasoning to solve these types of problems. Students will use their white boards to create and label place value charts as well as copy the steps and translate their understanding.

2. Independent Work: Exit Ticket with word problems and problems requiring word answers and numerical standard form answers.

3. Small Groups with Manipulatives and broken down problems: Students take other problems out of their math book to solve in groups. They use ones cube and tens sticks to see where and why numbers move on a place value chart when they multiply by 10. They record their answers in their consumable math notebook.

4. Rapid Math Minute: Students use 3 minutes to answer as many multiplication problems as possible. The students, in order of table placement, call out the answers to the equations. The goal is to improve their time and correct answers.
