The trial by Mind Map: The trial

1. Crime Scene

1.1. Nesbitt now has a gun which is new evidence that has not been introduced before. This introduces the element of self-defense into play.

1.2. Steve's role of lookout is still very undefined at this point in the story which is unsettling. At first it was as though he was standing outside the store looking for anyone suspicious. It has now changed to the fact that he looked through the drugstore beforehand and gave some unknown signal that it was okay to enter

1.3. Steve's side of the story was that he only went into the story to get a pack of mints even though there is contradictory conversation between he and KIng in which he agrees to be the lookout for him. He is painting himself to be the victim and having absolutely nothing to do with the case when he has at least some part in it.

2. Bobo Evans

2.1. All of the information that Bobo is giving is secondhand information

2.2. Bob may not have even been involved in the robbery and may be taking a plea in order to get out of other outstanding charges and to pin the case on someone else

3. Osvaldo's Testimony

3.1. Osvaldo was given a deal to testify and Briggs is poking holes in his testimony because of this

3.2. He says that he would never lie yet when he gets lies about being in a gang, he calls it a mistake. Calls into question how much he has lied about under oath and his moral code

4. Steve's distance from reality

4.1. "They were playing baseball as if baseball was important and as if all the world wasn't in jail, watching them from a completely different world." (p.155) This perfectly illustrates Steve's detachment from the world and his disparity for his fate. His outlook on life is becoming extremely grim and his world view is starting to become extremely narrow, barely extending past the walls of his cell.

4.2. He speaks of the movie almost as if it is an alternate reality to him at this point and that it is his escape from his own life. I think at this point, Steve views the character in his movie not as himself, but as simply a character in a movie. There is starting to be a more distinct separation and loss of reality there.

5. Henry

5.1. Briggs discredits Henry as a witness and for what seems to very probable cause

5.2. She states for the entire jury and courtroom her racial prejudice not to mention the fact that she was predisposed to photos before being able to pick King out of a lineup

5.3. With previous knowledge of the detectives, one can make assumptions that she was led to pick King as Karyl has already proved to be a corrupt detective that wants to see the men be put to death
