Karen Harding - Say Something (student remake) by Mind Map: Karen Harding - Say Something (student remake)

1. Andrew Goodwin

1.1. Karen Harding's 'Say Something' is a pop song. However, the remake of this music video does not follow the structure stated in Goodwin's theory: the video is to have a beginning, a middle/climax and an end.

1.2. Although, the video does feature the narrator as the character and she does look into the camera in order to extend her performance to the audience.

1.3. There are many shots that are repeated which reflect the different parts of the song.

1.4. In terms of the relationship between the song and the video, I would say that it would fall under the category of disjuncture.

2. Carol Vernallis

2.1. It is very apparent that this music video supports Vernallis' theories. Immediately, I know this because of base tracks being used over the usual continuity style of editing.

2.2. Jump cuts can be seen in parts of the video

2.3. A master base track has been use frequently throughout.

2.4. There are obvious edits such as slow motion and a flicker edit, as well as the frequent cutting on the beat.

3. Laura Mulvey

3.1. The video does show a well dressed woman, however I do not think her anything about her has been sexualised in order to replicated the male gaze.

3.2. The video only exclusively shows the main character who is female. Other people are shown in the video who are male but we do not see their faces, nor do we see them interact with the main character.
