CONTROVERSIAL MUSIC VIDEOS by Mind Map: CONTROVERSIAL MUSIC VIDEOS

1. Madonna - Like a Prayer: (Telegraph had this video in their top 10 controversial videos). While the video is intentionally, and insanely offensive, this was the height of Madonna's career; with the intense level of exposure this video had in respect to the general public. "No nudity or blood here, but Madonna didn't need them to turn the world on its head. Toying with (at least) two of society's classic taboos, Madonna has sex with an African-American man on a church pew. To add a little extra fuel to the fire (literally), she also sings in front of a field of burning crosses.

2. Sia - Elastic Heart: This was seen as the most controversial video of the year upon its release as critics claimed it had paedophilia overtones. The video, saw the 12-year-old Ziegler and 28-year-old LaBeouf cage-fighting in a skin-coloured leotard and pants but after being slated when released, Sia tweeted "My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody."

3. Lady Gaga - Do What You Want: Many news reports revealed the 28-year-old hitmaker dumped her own video with R. Kelly to avoid a backlash. According to a source quoted by Page Six, the video was finally mastered in September, but was too much like an 'ad for rape' to be broadcast. It also caused disgust amongst fans when Gaga and K. Relly performed the duet on Saturday Night Live in November, with the singer pretending to perform sex acts on the RNB star during the song. However the insider who spoke to Page Six said that ultimately the video and those involved were deemed too problematic. This is because at the same time as the video was to be released, Terry was accused sexual misconduct during his shoots by a number of models - he has denied this - and thousands were taking to Change.org to petition brands and magazines stop using the photographer.

4. Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines: This video was banned from multiple university campuses in the UK. Although it is in the 'Top 20 Most Controversial Music Videos' (Gigwise.com) Thicke says this was very intentional. When interviewed he said "We tried to do everything that was taboo. Bestiality, drug injections, and everything that is completely derogatory towards women. Because all three of us are happily married with children, we were like, 'We're the perfect guys to make fun of this."
