1. Activate in Working Memory

1.1.1. Limit the distractions children are exposed to as they have a limited capacity of what they can learn

1.1.1.1. Introduce new vocabulary words in a quiet classroom, with no other activities going on

1.1.2. Make stimulating lessons to get learners engaged and actively involved

1.1.2.1. Work with students on making physical connections to the words; examples: flap their arms like a bird, point to their calf on their legs

2. Move from Working Memory to Long Term Memory

2.1. Make a connection between the old and the new (Ormrod, p. 163)

2.1.1. Have students make connections between old vocabulary words and new vocabulary words by relating at least one old word with each new word

3. Retrieve from Long Term Memory

3.1. Make an emotional connection to make retrieval from long term memory easier and quicker (Ormrod, p. 185)

3.1.1. Have students make an emotional connection with the vocabulary terms: can they think of how words make them feel, or any personal stories they have about the words
