3. Internal Energy

3.1. Energy in a system arising from the relative positions and interactions of its parts.

3.1.1. Temperature of Hot Coffee > Temperature of Long Island Sound b/c Molecules in hot coffee move faster.

4. Thermal Energy

4.1. Internal energy of an object due to the kinetic energy of its atoms and or molecules.

4.2. Scientists do not describe things as hot or cold

5. Temperature

5.1. Degree or intensity of heat present in a substance or object

6.1. the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles.

7. Conduction

7.1. the process by which heat or electricity is directly transmitted through a substance when there is a difference of temperature or of electrical potential between adjoining regions without movement of the material

7.2. A metal spoon is an example of something that conducts electricity

8. Convection

8.1. the movement caused within a fluid by the tendency of hotter and therefore less dense material to rise and colder, denser material to sink under the influence of gravity which consequently results in transfer of heat.
