1. in 3000 BC ancient Egyptians would use wooden splints wrapped in linen. This was the first ever known way to treat a broken limb orthopedics cast in history.

2. In the 12th century there was a method called bone setting casts were made out hardening agents such as egg whites,flour and animal fats. This procedure was bone by a bone setter. Bone setting could become very painful so they would ice the limb or give the person alcohol to drink.

3. the 19th century was the start of the modern cast. Belgian surgeon, Louis Seutin used a technique called bandage amidonee. This technique consisted of bandages that were soaked in starch solution and wrapped around the limb. It would then have to set for 2-3 days. They later replaced the starch solution for dextrin

4. Today there is a much more innovative cast. This cast is waterproof easy to clean and is 3D printed. This design is much less bulky.

5. In the 16th century a french military surgeon by the name of Ambroise Pare was named one of the most important people in medical history and made a cast with a mixture of lime, egg whites and parchment. He also promoted artificial limbs and used amputation.

6. In 400 BC an ancient Greece physician discovered the importance excersizing a broken arm (this is now known as physical therapy) and was the first person to record the importance of splinting a broken bone. At this point they used stiffening bandages made from linens with wax and resins.

7. later in the 19th century a U.S officer was witnessed a casting technique using gypsum plaster(aka plaster of Paris). This technique was said to have great results.

8. in 1970 fiber glass tape casting tape was introduced so that the cast was lighter and it made the outside of the cast water proof(but the inside layer was not). Since that time this is the cast we all know of.
