Tennessee vs Garner

1. Who:
1.1. Memphis PD Officers Write and Hymon were pursuing a fleeing suspect in a burglary.They ascertained that he was unarmed and guessed that he was 16 or 17 during the chase. His name was Edward Garner.
2. What:
2.1. Despite knowing that he was an unarmed minor, when Garner came to a chain link fence and began to climb it, Officer Hymon shot him in the back of the head to prevent his escape.
3. When:
3.1. This took place at about 11:00 pm on October 3rd, 1974.
4. Outcome:
4.1. Edward Garner died on the way to the hospital. He was only fifteen years old, and had stolen just ten dollars and a bag.
