1. Global Demand for New Reproductive Technologies.
1.1. Infertility is a global health issue that effects millions of people worldwide; with no society being able to escape it. In other culutures such as Africa, infertility comes from infections.
1.2. In more than half cases, infertility is a problem stemming from the male but is always viewed as a "women's problem".
2. The Local in the Global
2.1. Local considerations, such as cultural, economical, social, political, or religious shape the way westernized reproductive technologies are offered and received by non western societies.
2.2. This book represents the multilayered suffering and shows the issues IVF patients face through stories and interviews.
3. Amira
3.1. 40 year old woman with fertility problems
3.2. Pregnant before if prior failed marriage, received an abortion
3.3. remarried, and could not get pregnant due to husbands fertility problems. Believed she was still at fault and was being punished for her prior abortion.
4. Hope/Resignation
4.1. Amira received an ICSI which did not work,
4.2. After 6 more attempts, and making hajj with her husband, she came to the resolution that she would never have the kids she dreamed of.
