1. Jews Come Under Roman Rule
1.1. Roman Power spread to Judea around 63 B.C. and the Jewish leader Herod Agreed to become Romanalized.
1.1.1. The Romans gave control of religious matters to local affairs and judea was split into 2 groups of religion
2. The Life and Teachings of Jesus
2.1. Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea. At age 30 he started his public ministry. He preached,taught, did good works, and performed miracles for the next 3 years.
2.1.1. Jesus worried the romans because Jesus was reffered to as "the king of the jews" and thr Roman Governor Pilate got him arrested and crucified. But three days after he was placed in the tomb he was gone.
3. Christianity Spreads Through the Empire
3.1. Paul was an apostle of Jesus and had enormous influence on Christianitys developement. the Pax Romana provided the ideal conditions for cristianity to spread.
3.1.1. The jews rebelled against Rome and thr romans stormed Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple complex. the dispersal of the Jews is called the Diaspora
3.1.1.1. Christians also had problem w/ the Romans because they wouldn't worship roman gods. so the Romans persecuted them for it.
4. A World Religion
4.1. Christianity grew because it inbraced all people, gave hope to powerless, appealed to those who repelled Rome, offered a personal relationship w/ a loving god, and promised eternal life after death.
4.1.1. a critical moment in christianity occurred when thr roman emperor Constantine was fighting for his title. while doing so he ended the persecution of christians.
4.1.1.1. Christianity increased in both power and wealth despite the empire's growing internal and external problems.
