Preventable Fatalities

1. Homicides
1.1. more strict penalties against intentional and unintentional causes of death
1.2. Group meetings for people who are mentally struggling with an addiction and known physical abusers
1.3. Better communicate with law enforcement and create a better relationship between them and the public
1.4. Make it more difficult for certain people to gain access to weapons
2. General Information relating to all three categories
2.1. Use statistical analysis to see what is and isn't working within other cities to prevent deaths.
2.2. Create a better understanding between the general public and law enforcement. This can be done by better integrating police into more positive events with adults and children
2.3. Start getting children to trust police and not see them as the enemy. Communicate with children the good and bad areas of law enforcement (age appropriate information)
3. Fire Deaths
3.1. Educate the public on how to not only prevent fires, but how to survive one.
3.2. Create a more strict punishment for people who set fires or do nothing to prevent them.
3.3. Fire safety classes for the public multiple times a year.
3.4. Inform the public, especially children about the main causes of fires and related deaths.
4. Traffic Fatalities
4.1. Inform the public of safe public transportation.
4.2. Greenway: give information about already existing safe ways to travel at night within Springfield
4.3. better enforce traffic laws like speeding, and not using cross walks
4.4. Have better forms of public transportation for those who don't already have a vehicle
4.5. Retest drivers every couple years to ensure that they are knowledgeable about current laws
