1. The Persecution & Genocide

1.1. All forms of self- expression were prohibited (Ex. Religion, music, etc.)

1.2. Black- Clad soldiers marched into cities taking people from there homes and families to dig canals and tend to crops as slaves.

1.3. The Children were Forced into mobile labor brigades

2. Anyone who opposed and spoke out would be tortured and killed with a blow to the head

3. Minorities faced more persecution. But everyone was persecuted

3.1. In fact not even members of the group were safe. The movement killed thousand of it's own people that were accused of being spies and traitors.

4. Mismanagement of the country led to starvation, and sickness, which many suffered from.

5. Took place from April 17, 1975 to January 7, 1979

6. The Neighboring Vietnam soon invaded and the terror for many was over

6.1. In 2006, the United Nations and the Cambodia government inaugurated the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) to judge the leaders.

6.1.1. Only three have been convicted to lengthy prison sentences. Many find there efforts a waste of money and time with such a low conviction rate, but it is more to show that no unspeakable deeds go unpunished and to give comfort and closure to the victims and survivors.

6.2. But for many it was far from over, a new civil war broke out and it was almost 30 years before members of the Khmer Rouge would be tried for there actions
