Evaluation 6: What have you learn about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
by Alexander Bell
1. Technology used: - Canon camera - Apple Macs - editing purposes - Final Cut Pro- editing app - Garageband - editing app
2. The process was initially hard, the camera's issues had to be resolved. At first the camera's tripod had to be stable in the muddy conditions of our film set. Then there was the camera's adjusting to the lighting - in places the lack of light meant that the camera couldn't focus, what's more it wouldn't always capture the scene, which led to needless retakes.
3. Using Garageband, we were able develop our film's soundtrack. Using very low tones made the audio seem very miserable and macabre, which was intended as it acts a parallel sound/music. This not only adds to the atmosphere, but helps create a sense of fear in itself.
4. Final Cut Pro was used to create our animatic. Apart from being insanely difficult, it has taught me how to use editing software. What's more I learnt about using special transitions, filters and other editing tools (such as the cutting tool) which were crucial to my film's development.
5. When it comes to equipment it's quite hard to disseminate strengths from weaknesses. When it came to using the cameras and tripods, it was relatively easy. Previous experience (pre-production) came in handy. It was essential to the visual effects, such as the brief blurring of the lens, which enabled us to be able to finish preliminary materials as well as the final product.
6. What's more, using the Macs for the first time proved to a difficult challenge as we had to learn a wide range of commands and functions to be able to make our film / blog work. For example, the screenshotting of work in progress was important as it showed the development of our process.
