2.1. Pragmatics is very much tied with culture and how a student will orient themselves with English pragmatics will vary.

2.1.1. Need for teaching to involve both target language culture and native culture.

2.2. Need to teach students meta-pragmatic awareness when interacting with language.

2.2.1. Meta-pragmatic awareness can be referred to as "the acknowledgement of those contextual features that determine the extent to which a given linguistic routine may be appropriate for a particular situation" (Safont Jordá as cited in McConachy, 2012).

2.3. Important for students to compare language norms and contexts between languages.

2.3.1. Time should be given to reflect on own perception of context, communication, and self.

2.4. Limitations to simple language transmission.

3.1. Hello, I Must Be Going Activity

3.1.1. Students are introduced to different greetings in English and have a conversation on a particular topic and then depart from one student on to the next.

3.1.2. Students go through all partners in the room without assistance or corrections.

3.1.3. At end of activity students write down all the greetings they think could be used in English and then they are reflected on.
