1. Suburbs of Poverty

1.1. Banlieues

1.1.1. Most of Paris' ≈717 'sensitive' suburbs are found in what is referred to as the 'Banlieues'.

1.1.2. Banlieues is formally defined as areas in Paris not part of the 'Proper City', however this does not dictate the wealth of the area. But in the last few decades the Banlieues have become a reference to the poverty-stricken parts of Paris, usually with a population primarily comprised of foreign immigrants.

1.2.1. There are myriad of suburbs which are under the poverty line in Paris, Sevran being one of the poorest.

2. Social Implications

2.1. The poor suburbs of Paris imply crime, therefore the infrastructure of the area is threatened.

2.2. Tourism in Paris may decrease as a result of uneducated tourists accidentally visiting unsavoury areas.

2.3. The poverty in the bordering areas of Paris may have cultivated recent terror acts. This is because the poor suburbs are largely populated by a muslim community.

3. Reputable Implicatins

3.1. Paris is globally known as a beautiful city, however, if poverty isn't combated this reputation could falter.

4. Foreign Residents

4.1. The residents of the poor suburbs surrounding Paris are mostly foreign immigrants.

4.2. In 2008 it was estimated that approximately 19% (roughly 11.8 million people) of the total population in metropolitan France were immigrants or descendants of immigrants.

4.3. The largest contributor to immigrants in France are other European nations, accounting for 46% of all immigration in the past 9 years. The next largest contributor is nations of Africa, including Arabic nations, which accounted for 30% of immigration in the last 9 years.
