Stress of being a Police Officer on and off duty by Mind Map: Stress of being a Police Officer on and off duty

1. Guidelines

1.1. Anything goes!

1.2. No criticism or flaming allowed

1.3. The Wilder The Better

1.4. Quantity is Quality

1.5. Set a Time Limit

2. Topic Sentence: Every job has its own level of stresses, however, the job of a police officer can be hard to deal with on and off duty.

3. Why are police officers often targeted by society and the media as bad people?

3.1. This is a subject I would have to dig into to find out what and why this happens. For research I would need to look at videos and read articles to find my answer.

3.1.1. Because sometimes the media puts out false information about different law enforcement agencies and do not tell the whole story, the things I'll need to know and understand is what police officers do behind the scenes that sometimes makes themselves look bad to the general public

4. People do not understand the stresses of wearing a badge and have a lot of people hate you for that, so why do people hate the police, but still dial 911 when in need of help from the police?

4.1. For this question, I can do research and watch videos of people during interviews, however, I can also speak to people who are not too fond of police officers and ask them what they think on the matter.

4.1.1. I need to be able to understand, first, why people look at cops as bad humans. Once I have figured that out, I need to be able to put 2 and 2 together by being able to understand the people who hate them and why they still call police for help in situations that can potentially be dangerous.

5. What are some methods police officers use on and off duty to cope with stress?

5.1. Methods I can use to answer this question is by talking to many of my friends who are police officers with the Los Angeles Police Department. The LAPD is probably one of the most hated departments and they would know how to deal with the stress.

5.2. I can talk to the police officers who have been in a while and I can talk to friends that just recently took their oath and see how they cope with the stresses as a brand new police officer.

5.2.1. The type of information need for this question is simple. What can police officers do on and off duty in order to maintain a healthy mental lifestyle away from police work.

6. How do police officers manage not to snap or go off on a specific individual when they are trying to follow protocol?

6.1. This is another one of those scenarios where I would need to speak to actual police officers. Because I live on a military installation, I could speak to Military Police Officers because although they are not certified Peace Officers, they still have to deal with a lot of the stuff on base, that civilian police have to deal with off base.

6.1.1. For this I need to be able to know what their protocol is because different agencies have different protocol and procedures for different situations. Maybe the detainee is not from that specific town and is used to the law in a different city, county, state, or even country.
