1.2.1. 1. The Radical-Revisionist School- The radical revisionist historians of education revised the history of education in the 1960's.

2.1. Define the theoretical perspective concerning the relationship between school and society.

2.1.1. Functionalism- functionalist view society as a kind of machine.

2.1.2. Conflict Theory- Conflict sociologist do not see the relation between school and society.

2.1.3. Interactional Theories- They attempt to make the commonplace strange by turning.

2.2.5. 5. Tracking- refers to the placement of students in curricular programs based on students' abilities.

3.1.1. 1. Intellectual- to teach basic cognitive skills. 2. Political- to inculcate allegiance to the existing political order. 3. Social- to help solve social problems. 4. Economic- to prepare students for later roles in their lives.

3.2. Choose and describe a perspective for the following:

3.2.1. A) Role of the School- The conservative perspective sees the role of the school to provide educational training.

3.2.2. B) Explanations of Unequal Performance- The liberal perspective states that individual students begin school with different life chances.

3.2.3. C) Educational Problems- Liberal and radical demands for greater equality in the 1960's and 1970's.

4. Chapter 5

4.1. Describe the particular worldview of one student-centered philosophy of education.

4.1.1. Pragmatism- the philosophy that encourages people to find processes that were in order to achieve their desired needs.

4.1.2. Generic Notion- Dewey's form of pragmatism was founded on the psychology, behaviorism, and the philosophy of pragmatism.

4.1.3. Goals of Education- Dewey believed that schools should balance the needs of society and community on one hand and the individual on the other,

4.1.4. Method of Instruction- Dewey stated that children learn both individually and in groups.

4.1.5. Curriculum- Schools usually follow Dewey's notion of a core curriculum.
