2. Shahadah

2.1. This pillar is the declaration of faith. It contains two statements "There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah". This is known as kalimat al-tawhid.

2.1.1. It embodies the Muslim belief in Tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and reflects the monotheistic nature of Islam as established through the prophet Muhammad.

2.1.2. Shahadah make sit clear that that only Allah is worthy of worship because he alone is god and supreme over all things, and that place anything above him would be to commit the sin of shirk. The second part of the declaration is a reminder to believers that Allah has chosen to reveal Himself to people through Muhammad and the prophets who came before him.

2.2. It is through declaring the Shahadah that a person professes the Muslim faith.
