1. Slaves

1.1. Non-Greeks, or criminals made into slaves

1.2. No rights

1.3. Had to pay a ransom to be freed

2. Upper Class/Athens

2.1. Must be born in Athens

2.2. Handled government work, literature, and war

2.3. Not allowed to perform small tasks

2.4. Symbol of being civilized and socialized

3. Lower Class/Freedmen

3.1. Once slaves, but freed by owner

3.2. Never allowed to gain citizenship

3.3. Be freed by paying off ransom or winning a fight

3.3.1. Example: Gladiators

4. Middle Class/Metics

4.1. Were not born in Athens, but were settlers and made a living in city

4.2. Not slaves, but had fewer rights compared to upper class

4.3. Worked trade level jobs

4.4. Not allowed to vote or get citizenship
