1. On November 6, 1869, Rutgers and Princeton played what was known as the first college football game. However, it wasn't until the 1880s that a great rugby player from Yale, Walter Camp, made some changes that slowly transformed rugby into the new game of American Football.

3.1. At the Massasoit convention, the first rules for American football were written. Walter Camp, who would become known as the father of American football, first became involved with the game.

4. Oldest Professional team

4.1. Chris O'Brien formed a neighborhood team, which played under the name the Morgan Athletic Club, on the south side of Chicago. The team later became known as the Normals, then the Racine (for a street in Chicago) Cardinals, the Chicago Cardinals, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Phoenix Cardinals, and, in 1994, the Arizona Cardinals. The team remains the oldest continuing operation in pro football.

5. First African American football player

5.1. Charles W. Follis, also know as "The Black Cyclone," was the first black professional American football player. He played for the Shelby Blues of the "Ohio League" from 1902 to 1906. On September 16, 1904, Follis signed a contract with Shelby making him the first black contracted to play professional football

6.1. The forward pass was legalized. The first authenticated pass completion in a pro game came on October 27, when George (Peggy) Parratt of Massillon threw a completion to Dan (Bullet) Riley
