Water replenishment Tylihul River and Tylihul Estuary by Mind Map: Water replenishment Tylihul River and Tylihul Estuary

1. Project Background

1.1. The primary goal of the project “Conservation the Tylihul River would save the Tylihul Lyman” is to conserve river Tylihul. At the present moment, the river Tylihul is suffering of riverbed silting-up which caused the dramatic decline of water flow to the Tylihul Lyman and leads to the growth of salinity up to 30 gram/liter which is three times more than in the sea (13 gram/liter). The Tylihul River is the main water flooding source and the key factor of decreasing water salinity in the Tylihul Lyman. The Lyman is the important state water body, classified as the Ramsar site. The most affordable way to restore the riverbed is silt control through conservation measures. Clearing should be done at the mouth reach sites upstream. Restored natural conditions of the river will increase the inflow to the Tylihul Lyman up to 5 000 000 cubic meters. The project activity will cover the area of the Tylihulskyi Regional Landscape Park, Odessa region, Ukraine. Objectives:

2. Project Objectives

2.1. - Restore the Tylihul River through implementation of conservation measures to stimulate the ecosystem and prevent the river degradation; - Mobilize volunteer groups and local community for clean-up events along the Tylihul River bank; - Mobilize volunteer groups and local community for clearing 60 wells along the shoreline of Tylihul Estuary; - Promote environmentally sound resources consumption through information campaign.

3. Project Success Metrics

3.1. Direct Beneficiary Group* Local communities living along the Tylihul River: Maryanivka, Victorivka, and Stepanivka villages

3.2. Number of Direct Beneficiaries * 1,524

3.3. Number of people to get access to clean water or sanitation as a result of this project/program* 50,438

3.4. Number of people to benefit from increased water related education/awareness as a result of this program/project* 5,000

3.5. Water volume to be conserved as a result of this project/program (number)* 5,000,000,000

4. Overall Expected Outcomes

4.1. Restored the Tylihul River through implementation of conservation activities;

4.2. Conserved the Tylihul Lyman through conservation of the Tylihul River;

4.3. Restored 60 water springs along shoreline of the Tylihul Lyman;

4.4. Organized and coordinated clean-up events along the Tylihul river bank

4.5. Reduced or partly eliminated human-induced impacts on freshwater sources, with involvement local authorities for protection and conservation this habitat in the future;

4.6. Increased awareness about significant importance of fresh water habitats, enhanced role of local communities in conservation of local environment and as a result certain positive changes in consumer habits in relation to freshwater habitats
