Greetings fellow MindMeisters! We hope you’ve all had a great summer, and while you’ve been off at the beach, we’ve been under the hood, making great improvements to MindMeister. We’ve taken advantage of some of the newest offerings in the world of HTML5, and users can now drag and drop attachments and images directly from their desktop to a selected node. And as the saying goes, “One update does not a new version make,” we thought a few more user-friendly features would find a home in MindMeister 4.7.

In addition to the new drag and drop feature, we’ve also updated how you view attached image and PDF files. Instead of having to download and then open these files, we’ve incorporated a Google API to bring you lightbox previews that will allow you to view these attachments sans download. Naturally, you still have the option to download all attachments.

Taking advantage of various API’s, we’ve updated the way public maps are displayed, featuring a new social sidebar. This revamp of our sidebar now includes a convenient login area; particularly helpful if the map is in wiki format, thus allowing you to make an instant contribution. We’ve also made it much easier to share public maps with others via Twitter, Facebook, and Buzz, as well as copy and/or embed the public map.

Along the social lines, we’ve created a public maps directory based on creator. Public map creators will have their other public maps listed in the social sidebar, as well as on a unique profile page. In addition to this listing of public maps, users can update their website and Twitter account info, as well as a short description.

Our newest iteration features a request that we’ve heard from a number of users – Auto Condensing. Meaning, if you have two or more nodes clustered tightly together, with multiple child and sibling nodes, upon expansion or contraction of these nodes, your mind map will now automatically reposition the closed (or open) nodes to a more readable, and graphically pleasing, format.

Our iCalendar task feed has been updated, allowing you to choose which notifications you’d like to receive: Event notifications, ToDo notifications or both. Our iCalendar feature is available in both WebCal (Apple Mail) and HTTP (Outlook) formats and can be activated under My Account>Tools.

Users of our Team Edition will now find custom branding options available under the My Team tab. Users may now upload a custom logo, replacing the default MindMeister logo, as well as custom theme their display and login page colors.

Last but not least, we’ve made it much easier for our MindMeister for Google Apps administrators, allowing them to notify all users of the service with only a few clicks.

We realize some of these features would be best better seen rather than described. To this end, we’ve put together a short video outlining our newest features:

MindMeister for iPad 3.6

As an added bonus to celebrate our 4.7 web version, we’re also happy to announce that MindMeister for iPad version 3.6 is now available from the Apple App Store.

In addition to all the great features, updates, and bug fixes in version 3.5, this new version now supports our Task Management System – making your MindMeister for iPad app now one step closer to full browser-based functionality, on the go!

As with all of our releases, we’ve done extensive in-house testing, but we’re always looking for your feedback. If you find something not quite working the way it should, we want to know about it. Thanks and enjoy the new MindMeister!
