1. GRAMMAR.

1.1. We use it to report actions that occurred or that we did in the past and that have completed.

1.1.1. *To make sentences, we add the ending ed to the verb. *If the verb ends in e, only the d is added. *Irregular verbs have neither ed nor d added to them and there is no rule for them, some of these are: Verbs Verbs in past time Verbs Verbs in past time *Speak / Spoke. *Leave / Left. *Say / Said. *Have / Had. *Tell / Told. *Wake / Woke. *Eat / Ate. *Get / Got. *Drink / Drank. *Think / Thought. *Come / Came. *See / Saw. *Go / Went. *Feel / Felt. *Sing / Sang. *Take / Took. *Write / Wrote. *Fit / Fit. *Read / Read. *Fly / Flew.

1.1.1.1. AFFIRMATIVE EXAMPLES.

1.1.1.1.1. *I talked to her. *We washed the dishes. *The groom kissed the bride. *It snowed yesterday. *The king lived a long life. *The judge tasted the food.

2.1. We used did in negative and interrogative sentences.

2.1.1. To make the negative sentences we add did not or didn't before the verb wich must be in the infinitive form. EXAMPLES: *He didn't close the door. *James did not eat today. *Karla didn't read the book. *They didn't eat pizza.

2.1.1.1. To ask questions, did is used at the beinning and the verb is placed in the infinitive form. EXAMPLES: *Did Karla the food? *Did they eat today? *Did Jason close the door?

3. THE VERB TO BE IN THE PAST.

3.1. Verb in present tense Verb in past tense *Am / Was. *Is / Was. *Are / Were.

3.1.1. To make affirmative sentences with verb to be in the past tense, the verb is added after the pronoun. EXAMPLES: *I was tired last night. *You were late yesterday. *Tom was at work last sunday. *She was 22 last year. *My wife and i were at the doctor's office last winter.

3.1.1.1. To make negative sentences add the word not to the verb to be in the past tense or the contraction of the verb to be in the past tense by adding n't. EXAMPLES: *I wasn't tired last night. *You weren't late yesterday. *Tom wasn't at work last sunday. *She wasn't 22 last year. *My wife and i weren't at the doctor's office last winter.

3.1.1.1.1. To ask questions, put the verb to be in the past tense at the beginnig of the sentence. EXAMPLES: *Were you late yesterday? *Was he at work las sunday? *Was Amy 22 last year? *Was the weather nice yesterday afternoon? *Were the shoes on sale?
