just give them some new gadget and note their feeling towards its ,like were they excited, dont care types, interested to more about it or what ? for eg : give preston an iphone and note his views towards it, does he see it as a just an new gadget, or figure our a way to make use of it in his profession or is excited o more about this gadget even if it might not be useful to him or what?

This is interesting., Would have to do on a case by case basis. Wouldn't just hand them something - would fit it into what their IT goals were.

find out whether they have trouble with several tasks regardless of context (like learning math, art, computers, video games) or if it’s just one type of task in particular.

Are there general strategies that we might employ to help an individual overcome a (a) fear of the technology (b) frustration with the technology ?

(a) raise their familiarity with the technology (b) ask them what they expect the technology will help them achieve and then settle any mismatches between expectations and capabilities

Just make them confident that we are there if something wrong happens, make them assured that we/I would take care if something wrong happens.

Let them first show the easy aspect of technology and keep of repeating the phrase “ did you see how easy was it “. This would develop confidence in them

Don’t make them feel alone. Relate to them and show them you’ve had the same frustrations/fears.
